Also affectionately known as Mungo, Kentigern was a monk and bishop who worked as an evangelist in Strathclyde and Cumbria and is remembered as the founder of Glasgow.
He was a contemporary of Columba (see June 9th), but out-lived him by several years. Once, with their respective companies of missionaries, they met up, singing psalms back and forth as they approached. They embraced and blessed each other and exchanged pastoral staffs, before continuing with their journeys and their work.
Teach me, Lord, that unless You build the house, the builders labour for nothing. Help me to submit my work and my plans to Your sight, and show me what is Your plan for all that I do. I want to build with You and see Your purposes come to pass. Amen.
