30 October – 1 November (Friday to Sunday)
Celebrating the Saints (Nether Springs)

Over this ‘All Saints’ Day’ weekend, we’ll have a chance to explore together the significance of being part of ‘The Communion of the Saints’.  We’ll also explore the lives of a variety of Northumbrian Saints and how they might help shape a ‘Northumbrian Spirituality’.  Retreat will include a pilgrimage on Saturday afternoon.

2 – 5 November (Monday to Thursday)
Inner/Outer Pilgrimage (Nether Springs)

This retreat involves both inner pilgrimage – a journey of inner work, silence, study, peace and rest and an opportunity for the ‘Heart alone with God’ staying full-board in an ensuite room – and outer pilgrimage. We have been working on resources to help those on retreat with their own transportation to explore the rich Christian heritage of Northumbria through outer, physical pilgrimage to nearby Celtic Sites. The Nether Springs Chapel, Poustinia, Labyrinth, gardens and woods and local country and coastal walks are available to all guests and provide time with God in Creation and space for the inner-outer pilgrimage as well.

6 – 8 November (Friday to Sunday)
Wild Ones: A Retreat for the Brave of Heart  (Nether Springs)

This a call to the wild ones — the restless spirits who sense that something deeper is stirring beneath the noise. A gathering for those who long to live with greater inner freedom, to wake up from the empire’s dream of comfort and control, and to ask together:
How then shall we live?… in a world tangled with division, conflict, and overconsumption.
How might we unshackle imagination from the long reach of the empire and its programme of consumer sedation? (Meditation Day 29, CDP2)
How might we become edge-dwellers, prophets of another way, unafraid of exile and alive with a new dream of faith for our times?

This retreat offers a held and hallowed space to reflect, explore, discern, and spark the God-given imagination already alight or perhaps lying dormant within us.

The space will be held by two Companions in Community, Jenny Tibbles and Heather Graber — not as experts, but as fellow pilgrims and co-conspirators — inviting others to join in the holy mischief of hope.

13 – 15 November (Friday to Sunday)
Celtic Saints: St. Hild (Nether Springs)

Bede describes Hild as a woman of great energy, who was a skilled administrator and teacher. She gained such a reputation for wisdom that even kings and princes sought her advice, but she also had a concern for ordinary folk like Caedmon. He was a cowherd at the monastery, who was inspired in a dream to sing verses in praise of God. Hilda recognised his gift and encouraged him to develop it. Although Hilda must have had a strong character, she inspired affection. As Bede writes, ‘All who knew her, called her mother, because of her outstanding devotion and grace.’ (From OHP website)

An opportunity to enter imaginatively into the story of this great Northern saint through storytelling, prayer and creativity. In doing so, we may discover inspiration and courage to serve with our own gifts and in our own spheres of influence. May include a pilgrimage on Saturday.

Individually Guided Retreat (IGR) Listening to the Heartbeat of God (Nether Springs)

In the Gospel of John, we find the Beloved Disciple at the Last Supper, leaning against Jesus, lying on his breast, reclining … presumably he was near enough to hear his heartbeat, if he chose to listen. This is a time to receive individual support and guidance as you to draw near to Christ as his Beloved One. You may also, of course, choose to explore other themes with your retreat guide.

Light from our past to illuminate our present (Nether Springs)

Join us at the Mother House for a retreat with Roy Searle, one of our Companions and former leaders, as he shares from his spiritual legacy and offers first-hand stories from the Northumbria Community’s formative years in the 1990s and beyond. Together, we will reflect on how God’s guiding presence shaped our journey then — and how those insights continue to inform our call to live faithfully in the present.

Advent Retreat (Nether Springs)

As we enter the busy seasons of Advent and Christmas, this retreat offers the opportunity to prepare for the weeks ahead, to separate the trivial from the significant, and to consider again the meaning, relevance and wonder of the Annunciation and the Incarnation of Christ. Through conversation and reflection, we’ll prepare to welcome Christ into our hearts and lives.
